Poker Glossary - Terms and Lingo

Glossary is one of the most important points in any gambling game. Sure you cannot learn any strategies or tips, cannot use card counting game variations if you do not know the meaning of this or that term, especially you can't play winning poker without the knowledge of the terms.

Action

The player’s turn to act in the round of betting.

Ante

The compulsory bet placed by all the poker players before the cards are dealt.

Big blind

Burn

Call

Calling station

Check

To skip the turn to place bet with not wagering any amount to the pot. It is allowed to check just if the bet wasn’t posted before.

Connector

The starting hand that contains two or more cards in sequence.

Dead money

Money contributed into the pot by poker player who isn’t in the hand.

Draw

The hand which can be quite strong in case some specific cards appear on the board.

Fast play
